The embattled Secretary to the Inter Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) in the latest Anas’ Galamsey exposé, Charles Cromwel Nanabanyin Onuanwonto Bissue has vacated his post.
His action comes days after the release of Anas’ video dubbed “Galamsey fraud”, which allegedly accused his person as being corrupt.
In a letter dated 1st March, 2019, Mr Bissue sighed that “…I am innocent of the allegations leveled against me in the documentary, as I was not and have not been involved in any acts of corruption, criminality or misconduct”
Charles Bissue emphasised that his decision to step aside is borne out of the respect and the need to preserve the integrity of his office, the IMCIM, and the President.
“…in the interest of transparency and accountability, and so not to compromise the work of the Inter Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, I have informed the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, Chairperson on the IMCIM, of my decision to step aside from my position as Secretary to the Committee, pending an investigation into the allegations”, Mr Bissue stated.
“I call for such investigation, and I am prepared to avail myself, at all times, to the investigation process. I am confident that, at the end of it all, I will be exonerated, and my good name will be preserved”, he added.
