Land and Property developers are being urged to do a proper search on land titles before embarking on any investment on them. The inaction of consultancy firms to undertake a thorough search and conflict resolution regarding land titles for infrastructure development has cost the Western Region a great deal.
A recent and rather unfortunate incident is the Sekondi District Hospital. It was among five other turnkey arrangement with Messrs NMS Infrastructure and Barclays Bank Plc, London at an estimated cost of US$175m.
Commenting on the matter, President of the Western Region House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II observes the phenomenon is very prevalent in the Coastal bound part of the region.
He added that most lands in the coastal bound part of the region are owned by individuals and families with a few vested in the chiefs, and that often frustrates attempts in putting up any development in the area. Ogyeahoho Gyebi II entreated developers to take precautions and the needed strategy to resolve all disputes and offer sufficient compensations to land owners.
