Skyy News have gathered that the construction firm working on the Fijai – Effia Nkwanta road; Asabea Construction, risk having her contract abrogated by the awarding agency should it fail to resume work in the shortest period of time.
Mayor for the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Anthony K.K Sam in an exclusive interview with Skyy News’ Eric Yaw Gyetuah hinted that a two week ultimatum has been given Asabea Construction Limited to resume work lest they abrogate the contract.
An infuriated K.K Sam mentioned the contractor had on numerous counts failed to complete work per every time extension he sought from the awarding agency; Regional Urban Roads Department.
He disclosed that the contractor has also failed to respond or returned phone calls made to him for some feedback.
The 1.5Km asphaltic road project was awarded to Asabea Construction Limited in 2014. The contractor in several instances blamed city authorities for allowing trucks to park on and along the shoulders of the road, arguing their presence impede their work. Currently the sub-base on the exit road from the Takoradi – Cape Coast highway has completed, with concrete drains constructed at both sides of the road. However this lane has been blocked with heavy rocks at its end. The other lane, remains muddy when it rains or dusty during the harmattan.
Acknowledging the impact these trucks could have on the project the contractor and STMA have prepared a truck terminal at Sofokrom. The terminal has been in use for over three months now.
This brought an end to the problem but the contractor had since then failed to resume operations.
