Number Nine, a suburb of Effiakuma in the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality was thrown into commotion over suspicion of the kidnap of a woman and children, this morning.
The community was awakened by an alert of a speeding black Nissan patrol with tainted glasses on the Takoradi- Cape Coast highway, when a woman was heard shouting for help in the car.
Some residents who were caught by the disturbance in the car pursued it and the police joined minutes later to stop the driver.
Some residents wielding machetes, clubs, and stones threatened to brutalise the driver when they ever lay hands on him. It took the police to wrestle him from the irate crowd. Upon some interrogation with the driver and the woman and children, it was established they were family.
The man’s name has been given as George Eduful, and is said to be a husband to Khadija Kamara [a Sierra Leonean] , the woman who screamed for help.
Municipal Chief Executive Kojo Acquah explained to the irate group that some misunderstanding had ensued earlier between the couple, where the woman attempted to stop the man from taking the children to school this morning. He added that the woman resorted to forcefully take the steers of the moving vehicle from the husband, and that resulted into some struggle in the car.
Public Relations Officer of the Western Region Police Command, DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku told Skyy News the SWAT had to deployed swiftly to manage the insurgence. She noted that the vehicle of the gentleman was damaged as a result.
She stated that the woman will be charged for raising false alarm and causing scare in the Metropolis.
Despite the explanation given by the MCE and the Police, some residents remain unconvinced. They believe the police are shielding a potential kidnapper, and that demand immediate justice.
