The Environmental Health Department of the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality is bent on prosecuting Car-washers on the shoulders of the Effia-Storm drain for good.
The assembly then a sub-metro of the Sekondi Takoradi Metropoliatan Assembly has since been issuing warnings and notifications to these deviant drivers who had turned the area into a washing bay.
The resulting effect is the quantum of debris and sediments that choke the drain, and associated weeds that grow in it. But this, authorities say may cause the weakening of the drain and possibly cause the waters in it to overflow during the raining season.
In that regard, Metro- Environmental Health Director Samuel Agyarkoh, says the assembly will re-strategise and then tackle it once and for all.
“We are trying to engage them, and then after that we use the law… first the issuance of notices to desist from that act, when that fails, we will resort to enforcement. This will imply issuing surmons to appear before the law court”, he mentioned.
He however added that the effort will require some sensitization to better prepare the people for the desired attitudinal change.
