FREE EDUCATION IS POSSIBLE, IF WE ARE DISCIPLINED ENOUGH – BRO. DAN ASIAMAH

Bro. Dan Owusu Asiamah, a leader of the Church of Christ, Western Region, and the Founder of the Outreach Africa Vocational Institute (OAVI), a free Vocational Institute, has applauded the NPP government for its willingness to make Senior High School free in Ghana by implementing the free SHS policy.

He said this is laudable because the initiative affords the opportunity for all Ghanaian children to have access to secondary education, adding that that is the best every country can give its citizens.

According to him, most countries around the world have their second cycle education being free for their citizens, adding that “in America, tertiary education is somewhat free. Free in the sense that if only you are a citizen of that country, they won’t demand anything from you until after your graduation and you have found a job to do, then they will expect you to give back to the society, and so by doing that you are inculcating the idea of volunteerism into the people.”

Bro. Dan Owusu Asiamah was speaking to Skyy News at the sidelines of the 10th anniversary and 5th graduation ceremony for his school; the Africa Outreach Vocational Institute (OAVI), on Saturday, 4th August, 2018, at the school’s premises at Whindo, Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality.

On the challenges confronting government about the sustainability of this policy in terms of funding, Bro. Owusu Asiamah urged government to be discipline, and ensure it cuts down on unnecessary expenditures to help it generate enough funds to fund it.

“You have to cut down on unnecessary expenses, so it has to do with discipline. On government side, if they are disciplined, they can fund this free SHS policy. It is something they can do. Whatever is happening today, they should learn lessons from them, and as a nation, let us forge ahead,” he stated.

He admonished Ghana, and for that matter, Ghanaians, to do all they can to ensure that this free SHS program works, because it is very beneficial. He said people must be generous enough to contribute towards the success of this free SHS being implemented by the government.

He stated: “and so once again, I will congratulate the government but it is just one step. Let us continue to all do all that we can, because America and all the other great nations in this world are thriving because their citizens are so generous to so many people.”
