The Executive Director of Lemuel Essieh Education Foundation (LEEF), Miss. Georgina Woyram Adopley has stressed on the need for government to pay special attention to early childhood education in the country, especially in the public schools. According to her, the childhood education sector has been neglected by the government for too long, in the planning and development of education in the basic level. According to her, the focus is only on the Junior and Senior High Schools, and the Universities.
Miss. Georgina Woyram Adopley believes the foundation of every school going child in the country should be strengthened with tough policies to enable a better foundation at the basic level.
She made this known when the Lemuel Essieh Education Foundation (LEEF) donated some modern plastic chairs to the Anaji Municipal Assembly (MA) Kindergarten School. The foundation donated one hundred chairs and ninety modern tables amounting to GHC 8,300 to the school. The foundation has also adopted the school for various educational supports.
Miss. Georgina Woyram Adopley in an interview after the donation indicated that, the foundation is worried about the neglect being suffered by the sector.
“No matter where a child is located, quality early childhood education is very paramount since it informs the child’s mindset to grow up in becoming future leaders. Our foundation, which is an advocacy for quality early childhood education, is basically to reform the Kindergartens of most public schools in the Western Region by giving them facilities that will make the children comfortable and happy in school, and this is why we are donating this modern plastic chairs and tables,” she Noted.
According to her, most government basic schools in the country lack facilities.
“Kids need beautiful environment. Sometimes you go to some of the schools and the tables and chairs the kids are seated on are nothing to write home about, so the Lemuel Essieh Education Foundation (LEEF) wants to change the environment and give the kids beautiful things to change their mindset and let them know that, in life, they also deserve better because beautiful environment encourages the kids to learn hard,”Miss. Georgina Woyram Adopley added.
According to her, comfort is very vital in early childhood development and the government must adopt policies which will ensure much comfortable atmospheres at the basic levels.
The Headmistress of the Anaji M.A kindergarten, Margaret Boabeng was appreciative of the gesture, and promised the school will adopt proper maintenance culture of the tables and chairs. According to her, the items have arrived timely since the school lacks adequate tables and chairs to aid proper teaching and learning.
