Courtesy Skyy Media Group and the Western Region Masquaraders Association, the 2019 edition of the Skyy Media Independence Day Blood Donation hit a record high of 253 pints of blood, twice the number recorded from last year.
The exercise which begun in 2002 is observed on March 6th every year, to help stock the Regional Blood Bank at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital.
Chief blood donor Mr. Emil Anonu who spoke to Skyy news expressed satisfaction on responses. He encouraged frequent exercises of such to enable the facility have in stock blood to save lives.
“The exercise has been successful, and it is an improvement over the previous years and it is encouraging. Some people came and because of medical history and others, were disqualified but in all we had 253 pints of blood which is an appreciation over last year’s 160 pints” he said.
He emphasised on the need for Ghanaians to regularly donate blood to support health facilities.
“Blood is not like any other drug that you to the drug store and buy meanwhile it is always needed for survival so there is always the need for people to donate blood regularly so that blood will be available who need and more especially the accident victims” he added.
This year’s event which was held at the Skyy House, was sponsored by Cirrus Oil Service Limited, Promasidor Ghana Limited, Carmeuse Lime Stone, Kinapharma, Macro shipping, Lucky Bazaar, God is Love Chop Bar, and Nock Chemist; and with the support of Naakoff Chinese Resturant, Super Hideout Bakery, Seth Chinese Resturant, Rabbles Bakery, Standard Water, Hans Bakery and Court Chop Bar.
