I’ve not collected any money from sacked traders – Effia Assembly member

Assembly member for the Effia electoral area in the Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolis Philip Evans Nyarko has mounted a spirited defense against claims that he takes monies from traders selling at the Effia traffic light.

According to him he understands what it means to be called an honorable and therefore dared anyone with evidence of the money claim to come forward.

“I have been an assembly member for the past two years and i can state with all honor that i have not collected a pesewa from any of the traders. It is a figment of someone’s imagination. I’m challenging anyone with any form of evidence to come forward”.

He was reacting to claims by embattled traders at the Effia intersection that they were selling there because the assembly member collects monies from them.

Tables, chairs, umbrellas and containers belonging to the traders were on Monday October 9, 2017 destroyed by guards from the STMA after the traders failed to heed to their warning on them to move.

In a heated exchange with Skyy power fm’s Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson on the Jolly Breakfast Show on Tuesday October 10, 2017 the assembly member unequivocally stated the traders were at the intersection on their own accord.

Mr. Nyarko however could not say whether or not he supports the demolishing exercise by the STMA.

“These people are the same people we fall on during communal labor and the likes, so we need to be careful in our dealings with them”.

No matter how hard he was pushed, he did not yield.
