Latest news: Suspect dies in police custody, Kwesimintsim youth storm police station

Information reaching Skyy News indicates that residents of Kwesimintsim have stormed the Kwesimintsim District Police Command over reports of the death of a suspected murderer of one Mubarik, who was lynched last Sunday.

Mubarik, was alleged to have been brutalized by some residents in the neighborhood, over suspicion of hoarding stolen electrical appliances in his room. The mob accused Mubarik for the crime of aiding and abetting thievery in the community.

Our reporter, Kendrick reports the suspect [deceased] whose name was given as Dauda, was picked up during a swoop at a local joint in Kwesimintsim in relation to that. According to him, the residents say, Dauda was beaten in the process despite calls by relatives on the police to be pardoned. According to a relative, Dauda was taken ill at the time of the incident.

A sibling who was concerned about his health was also assaulted by the police when he attempted to pass some medication through the police to him. He was mistaken to be an accomplice and dragged to the police cells. A struggle ensued and Dauda’s fell unconscious, in the process. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Kwesimintsim District Hospital.

In the meantime, the Police have mobilized head-armed personnel to beef up security to avert any civilian confrontation that might ensue.
