The Western Region House of Chiefs is blaming lawyers for the feuding factions in the chieftaincy dispute in the Sekondi Traditional area for the house’s inability to resolve the issue.
The over protracted dispute, which has lasted well over fifteen (15) years, has resulted in the Sekondi Traditional Area being denied a Paramount Chief till date.
The suit, which is pending before a three member panel at the Regional House of Chiefs, has suffered series of adjournment, mostly based on the absence of councils for the parties in the dispute.
Council for the Western Regional House of chiefs, Lawyer Kwaku Sam Amoah, who made the revelation to Skyy News after a group of agitated youths of Sekondi petitioned his outfit to see to the settlement of the protracted dispute with dispatch.
According to him, members of the panel adjudicating the dispute are equally worried with the case being unduly delayed.
He stated that the case which was recently called on Wednesday, 7th March 2018, had to be adjourned since council for both parties were not present in court for the case to be heard.
“There are practical problems with this suit. Most times, the lawyers of the two parties do not show up. The last time the case was called was a week ago. The case was called but the lawyers for the two parties were not present, so the matter had to be adjourned,” Lawyer Sam said.
To this end, he is entreating the disputing parties to do the needful by ensuring that their councils regularly make an appearance before the panel whenever the case is to be heard.
He admonished the people of Sekondi to exercise restraint, as the house is poised to see to the settlement of the dispute.
