Contrary to reports that the Ellembelle District Chief Executive confirmation exercise will be held today Friday June 30, 2017, Western Region Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party Charles Bissue has stated unequivocally that no date has been fixed.
He however admits that the Friday June 30, 2017 date came up in a discussion between the Western regional minister and the Local Government and Rural Development Minister but nothing was firmed.
“There was a discussion saying that it was going to be Friday but it wasn’t a concrete decision that was made. Upon further discussion with the minister (Dr. Kweku Afriyie) and the Local Government minister, it was decided that we have to wait and pick a new future date so there was no concrete date fixed”.
The Friday date was confirmed to Skyypowerfm.com by a leading member of the NPP in the region.
But he later indicated there has been a postponement to allow the party address certain developments that could threaten the stability of the party at Ellembelle.
The President’s first choice of a DCE for Ellembelle Steve Donkor was rejected outright.
Mr. Donkor’s rejection is reportedly due to a certain arrangement with the 2016 parliamentary candidate Bonzo K that became sour.
Now, Mr. Bonzo, who had earlier relinquished the DCE postion to Mr. Donkor, wants it back.
Interestingly the President has nominated Mr. Bonzo as his choice for DCE. The President’s new decision appears to be vexing some members of the party.
Mr. Bissue is calling for calm. He explained all the names the President mentioned had some opposition but in the end calm was restored.
“Wherever we have been there has been people supporting one person or the other. So we speak with people before we go in. I believe a decision will be made for a new date and we will have a new DCE for Ellembelle very soon. We had similar problems in Kwesimntsim, we had a similar problem in Amenfi Central. We solved them. So this case at Ellembelle is unsurmountable, we will deal with it. I don’t think there will be a permanent division. The President has decided on another candidate Bonzo K. so we are looking at that.”
