Remain calm – NPP members urged

Members of the governing New Patriotic Party have been urged to remain calm and resolute as Nana Addo and his government put forward its development plans for the country. It has been some six months since the NPP government took over political power from the NDC. Then Presidential Candidate Nana Addo campaigned on how the incompetence of the NDC has run the country into a yawning abyss.

He promised of an alternative that will revise the dwindling fortunes of the country. But six months into his administration there appears to be growing frustrations from within the NPP.

Some government appointees and Members of Parliament speak of how some members of the party are on them with various demands.

At the annual delegate’s conference of the Sekondi Constituency of the NPP Presidential Staffer Charles Bissue entreated members of the party to exercise restraint as it is too early for them to be in a state of despair.

“We have reached a stage in our politics where I believe we must learn three things. When we look at the motto of Mfantispim School, it is “Dwen hwe Kan”.  Again, take the Apam Senior High School motto, “Obra pa gya owura kwan”, and my own school, the Nsien Senior High School. The motto is “Me Nyame na me man” meaning My God and my country. These three things, in my opinion when used as our guiding principle will be of immense benefit to us all”. So I believe we must be patience”.

Member of Parliament for Sekondi Andrew Egyapa Mercer told the gathering that government has rolled out certain programs that will ensure that their lives are better off.

He mentioned the One Million, One Constituency program which is expected to take off in August and the Free Senior High School which also takes off in September.

According to him if they have been able to endure for eight years then, six months is too early for them to agitate.

“We have been in opposition for the past eight years, we complained though, but we coped. Now, our government is in power for only six months and we can’t exercise patience.  From phone calls, social media, here and there. A lot of issues. We all know the rot National Democratic Congress (NDC) left for us. No one has the ability to transform Ghana in six months. We [NPP] we are enlightened and we know that. So why all these agitations”.

Lawyer Mercer assured the delegates that the government will not disappoint them.

Over two hundred delegates participated in the conference held at the Government Secretariat at Fjiai. It also saw in attendance national and regional executives, past constituency executives, Mayor of Sekondi Takoradi KK Sam and well-wishers from the four remaining constituencies including Takoradi, Essikadu – Ketan, Effia and Kwesimentsim.
