Roads and Highways Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta has decried the deplorable nature of the road that leads to the birthplace of Ghana’s first President [late] Ossagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. A saddened and infuriated Roads Minister couldn’t fathom why a befitting road infrastructure haven’t been constructed for his [Dr Kwame Nkrumah] name sake.
“Its shameful, at least for historical importance and for the sake of tourism. People have heard so much about Dr Nkrumah. No matter what he was the first president of this republic”, Kwasi Amoako Atta fired.
Hon. Kwasi Amoako Atta made these pronouncement during a working visit to the Nkroful township [birthplace of Dr Kwame Nkrumah] to inspect road construction projects in the Western Region.
The 28 kilometer road that spans between Esiama- Anyinase was awarded to a Chinese; Jiangxi Nonferrous Engineering limited in 2015 but was abandoned due to delay of payment of their interim payment certificate. Physical work done at the time was estimated at 25 percent.
Hon Amoako Atta intimated that the contract would be abrogated and re-awarded for completion with immediate effect.
“It was awarded on contract, it was not executed, and we have left it in this state. The government of President Nana Addo Dankwa will work on this road. Its a highway road, and I have directed by deputy chief executive to abrogate the contract and re-award it”, he reiterated.
