The Ministry of Roads and Highways has been issued a two week ultimatum to honour payment of all arrears on allowance owed agents and contractors who clear weeds on various highways and feeder roads within the Sefwi Wiawso, Sefwi Bekwai and Bibiani townships, as well as its environs.
The embittered contractors say government owes them for work done since 2017.
They say their livelihood has been terrible due to loans they took from banks to pay their workers to execute the contract.
Spokesperson for the group, Kwasi Gyan told Skyy News’ reporter Nana Yaw Preko that “We are having issues with the banks on the loans we took. They need their money. They are really after us. For some of us, we’ve opted to stay in the bush so as to avoid arrest and humiliation from the banks”
The work of these contractors contribute to the proper maintenance of the roads, and also prevent accidents, especially in these forest zones.
