Skyy FC maintained their incredible unbeaten home run at the St. Martin’s Park in Daboase in a blockbuster off-season friendly against premier league kingpins Elmina Sharks. The unbeaten run now stands at forty four matches in all competitions and friendlies, spanning for two years. Not even Richard Mpong’s headline-grabbing presence could inspire Elmina Sharks to victory over Skyy FC at the well-attended match that ended goalless.
It was a game not bereft of clear-cut chances and quality, with Skyy FC misusing the best opportunity when hardworking Ebenezer Ocran shot wide just before the tenth minute mark. Despite some moments of quality of their own, Malik, coach of Skyy FC believes Elmina Sharks attackers were largely nullified. The quartet of Sam Arthur, John Asmah, Martin Owusu and Isaac Afful kept Sharks Ishmael Hammond and Benjamin Tweneboah at bay
Malik’s selection was perhaps more of a comment in his absolute faith in his in squad playing a 4-3-3 formation with Ebenezer Ocran and Nana Awortwe as the team’s heartbeat. Ebo Suapem aka Ages came on with crisp passes, blending excellent ball control and distribution to keep the Skyy team in charge. His deftly touches and sublime skills sustained their grip of the midfield with Ebenezer Ocran blazing all through.
Elmina sharks, coached by former Ghanaian international, Yaw Acheampong, demonstrated good fitness level, chasing back and defending well as the same time. Sharks Ibrahim Tanko, formerly of Medeama FC and Hearts of Lions wasted the away side’s best chance, scooping over from 10 yards out in the second half, but found Skyy Fc’s centre backs Martin Owusu and John Asmah an impenetrable barrier.
Martin Owusu was the game’s most outstanding player and was vociferously backed by the home supporters throughout the game – as well as receiving vocal support from the few travelling team’s fans who, after the game, still held out hope he can be lured to the Nduom Stadium despite coach Malik’s insistence he would not be sold now.
