The National Disaster Management Organisation of the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly under a preventive programme to curb industrial accidents and other disasters, have begun an inspection tour in business and industries to assess their disaster management strategies and plan. The exercise, which is taken yearly, is aimed at improving workplace safety and also to avoid or curb accidents which might cause life’s and loss of properties.

Acting Metro Director of the organisation, James Obeng Junior during one of the visits told Skyy News that exercise would improve safety standards adapted by organisations in the city.

Mr. James Obeng further indicated that his outfit is collaborating with other departments, including the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Health Service and other local authorities to enforce building codes and sanitation laws in bid to prevent potential disasters.

“This year is an action year, we are going to bite because we cannot sit unconcerned for some institutions to flout the safety rules, and we all need to ensure the metropolis is free from all forms of disasters this year. So we are prepared, we are visiting hotels, government and private organizations and fuel stations. After that we will write our observation and recommendation report and submit for compliance. Those who refuse to comply, will be dealt with by the laws”, he stressed.

He warned that organisations who disregard their recommendations shall be sanctioned when caught.
