President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has assured chiefs and people of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality of massive development in the shortest possible future. The President at a meeting with the Chiefs from the Prestea Huni Valley, Tarkwa Nsuaem, Mpohor and Wassa East District last Saturday at the Conference room of Tarkwa Goldfields Limited, intimated that Tarkwa Nsueam, like all other extractive areas in the country deserve magnification in terms of development.
President Nana Addo in his remarks noted feasibility studies on two defunct factories in the area; the Bonsa Tire Factory and the Aboso Glass Factory, are almost complete. He stressed that the revamping of the Bonsa Tire Factory presents the opportunity for the country to add value to the rubber cultivated in country.
“Feasibility studies are almost complete. We have rubber plantations in Western Region. We shouldn’t continue to be raw material exporters. So we will have to complete the feasibility studies, and then see the necessary actions to be taken” he announced.
Commenting on another critical development for the area, which is road, the President hinted that construction works would soon begin. He explains that cabinet on June 5 this year, deliberated on the matter to address it.
“On Tuesday the 5th June, cabinet presided over by myself took the decision that we were going to construct Tarkwa town roads. We met officials of Goldfields Limited. I’ve pointed out to them that it is undeserving for a community they’ve mined in, for years to be in such a state. I want these mining communities to be like Johannesburg. So I am on them for that” he said.
