Traders and other squatters on the principal streets of the Kwesimintsim Township are complaining of an unjust treatment meted out at them during a recent demolition and decongestion exercise taken by the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly.
The traders complain that a notice issued by the assembly prior to the exercise indicated that the exercise was to be taken on January 7, 2019. One of the affected persons, said they anticipated that the assembly could have spared them on the holiday as they observe the Constitution Day.
She thought the exercise could have been postponed to another date after a plea by a group of these traders. Some other concerns were raised too.
Take a listen
But the Presiding Member for the assembly, John Davis maintains that structures on earmarked areas for the demolition were without authorisation for their erection. He urged traders to admit wrong doing and engage city authorities for space in the Apremdo market to support their business. He however added that the decongestion and demolition exercise shall continue to other parts of the municipality.
