President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, has assured the traditional authority of the Sefwi Chirano Traditional Area, and Ghanaians to complete construction works on the Chirano Community Day Senior High School. The Chirano Community Day SHS is among several other E-block educational infrastructure that were being constructed by the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
The assurance comes on the back of an appeal made by the Paramount Chief for the Sefwi Chirano Traditional Area, Okogyeman Kwaku Gyamprah III to the President to consider addressing challenges that might have resulted into the abandonment of the project. Some residents who spoke to Skyy News say students have been made to use a Methodist Junior High School Classroom units for the first and second year group of the Chirano Community Day Senior High School.
A national service person Owosu Ansah Matthias explained lessons are often obstructed by the noise from the basic school and junior high level who happen to be on the same premises. He disclosed that the Methodist Church in early weeks upon the resumption of the third term warned they would be forced to take the classroom units from the SHS.
Speaking at a durbar held in Chirano, Friday 8 June, 2018 in honour of a sod cutting ceremony for the construction 24.3 kilometer road from Kojina to Etwebo Akoti in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality, Okogyeman Kwaku Gyamprah III stated the school has been has been abandoned by the contractor due to some financing problems from government.
Okogyeman Kwaku Gyamprah III, in an exclusive interview with Skyy News clarified, “the contractor confirmed to him that government owes him a sum of GH800,000, and for which he cannot continue work if government fails to honour payment”
In a rather assuring manner the President said “the Ministry of Education has been allocated a budget to support the completion of all these Community Day SHS’. I’m not certain if your school is being considered. But I must assure you, I will confirm that from the Minister, and if it isn’t, I will advise he reconsider it for works to be completed on it”
