WR: Six “Galamseyers” arrested in Mpohor

Six illegal miners have been arrested by the Police in Ayiem, a village in the Mpohor District of the Western Region.

The “galamseyers” were arrested mining in the River Subri  on Monday July 10, 2017. Their names have been given as; Clement Fosu 27, Paul Sissie 21, Isaac Larbi 29, Emmanuel Godzo 29, Rafael Lewu 27, and Subina Kwesi 18.

The arrest was led by the District Chief Executive for the area, Ignatius Asaah Mensah.

According to the DCE, he received a tip off on their operation from a community anti-galamsey taskforce on Sunday evening.

“I quickly mobilised a team, comprising of the police, and the community taskforce at dawn the following day and we went to the site to arrest the,” he said.

The arrested “galamseyers” will be arraigned before court [Takoradi Circuit Court] on Wednesday 12 July, 2017.
